But the team YouTube users Robbie and Stacy made by singing “This Christmas” (Donny Hathaway’s hit) should really be a head-turner for recording companies.

Enjoy.

Apart from the weird organ “mode”, I guess everything was really good. The singing was exceptional. Just slightly nasal for me, but I guess it’ll pass (I guess Stacy was just a bit shy).

Smells Like Roasting Nuts… http://covercove.com/2007/12/08/smells-like-roasting-nuts/ http://covercove.com/2007/12/08/smells-like-roasting-nuts/#comments Sat, 08 Dec 2007 05:37:57 +0000 admin http://covercove.com/2007/12/08/smells-like-roasting-nuts/ (That title actually came out wrong…)

Hearing the most-covered Christmas song ever (and again, I say I dunno because White Christmas might be the most-covered holiday song) might get a little boring especially when they just sing it for the sake of singing it. This time, YouTube user Guamojigga gives us his Bublè-ish version of “The Christmas Song”, and I’m happy to say that, in my opinion, he did a great job putting fun in the song.

Just take away the hotdog with marshmallow on it (it really looked weird), I say this is a pretty good act.

I Was Silenced http://covercove.com/2007/12/08/i-was-silenced/ http://covercove.com/2007/12/08/i-was-silenced/#comments Sat, 08 Dec 2007 05:29:09 +0000 admin http://covercove.com/2007/12/08/i-was-silenced/ After a week-long period of being busy with my day-job, it’s time to blog about Christmas covers again. This time, we see / hear Lana McKissack singing Silent Night.

She’s definitely cute. Hehe (*blushes*). Especially when she hit that poor silver christmas tree. But I thought the singing was just OK. She had the looks, and I guess she should’ve pushed the envelope when it comes to a song like this. It was so close from being boring.

As for how she poised in front of the camera, I don’t think she should’ve looked like heartbroken. Silent Night is a solemn song, and I was expecting her to at least feel the spirit of Christmas from within.

Anyway, just my opinion.

David Choi Continues His Christmas Song Marathon http://covercove.com/2007/11/27/david-choi-continues-his-christmas-song-marathon/ http://covercove.com/2007/11/27/david-choi-continues-his-christmas-song-marathon/#comments Tue, 27 Nov 2007 05:37:08 +0000 admin http://covercove.com/2007/11/27/david-choi-continues-his-christmas-song-marathon/ A new twist to the old “White Christmas”. I hope y’all enjoy this one (there was a hint of David Choi smiling here, but a bit blurry, though).

David Choi does this Christmas Caroling every weekday, which started last week. Just check out his YouTube Channel every weekday.

Have Yourself a Blues-y Little Christmas http://covercove.com/2007/11/27/have-yourself-a-blues-y-little-christmas/ http://covercove.com/2007/11/27/have-yourself-a-blues-y-little-christmas/#comments Mon, 26 Nov 2007 23:25:49 +0000 admin http://covercove.com/2007/11/27/have-yourself-a-blues-y-little-christmas/ This guy really made it at the top of my christmas list! This guy not only sets the bar higher for the carol “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, but also gives a fresh and relaxing sound to any carols I’ve heard so far.

Here’s YouTube user ortoPilot, singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”

What can I say? He has all of it, like good phrasing, blues-y sound, but not compromising the true message of the song. It’s like breathing out some relaxing greetings for the Holidays effortlessly!

Granpa Also Does YouTube! http://covercove.com/2007/11/26/granpa-also-does-youtube/ http://covercove.com/2007/11/26/granpa-also-does-youtube/#comments Sun, 25 Nov 2007 17:07:59 +0000 admin http://covercove.com/2007/11/26/granpa-also-does-youtube/ First off, I really don’t think this video is funny. But, though I have nothing against granpa Dennis Brown about singing in front of the Karaoke, it is still singing in front of the Karaoke. I mean, I’ve seen a lot of people sing in front of the box making the song their own, not only copying the exact tone, phrasing, and even the huskiness that the original singer had.

Here’s Dennis Brown for “If Everyday Was Like Christmas”, originally sung by The King himself, Elvis Presley.

Well, on the lighter side, at least granpa knows how to sing. He just doesn’t know how to make his own style and be contemporary with what YouTube viewers like me are expecting. Another plus for having “that much” videos in his YouTube channel (he has 66 of them as of press time).

At least, he still tries to prove that YouTube is a moms and pops thing.

Sweets for Your Christmas Tree http://covercove.com/2007/11/26/sweets-for-your-christmas-tree/ http://covercove.com/2007/11/26/sweets-for-your-christmas-tree/#comments Sun, 25 Nov 2007 16:54:00 +0000 admin http://covercove.com/2007/11/26/sweets-for-your-christmas-tree/ Searching for all possible Christmas covers in YouTube led me to this sweet-singing girl named Lana McKissack. Of course, “The Christmas Song”, if not “White Christmas”, has been the most covered song ever in the music industry, and I seem to notice that most artists who does a Christmas album never forget to include this in their track list.

Anyway, before I babble enough to make a novel, here’s Lana for her version of “The Christmas Song”.

What can I say, the girl really knows how to sing. And she really made the song her own, albeit a few diction problems at the start of the song. But she really is cute, don’t you guys think?

All I Want for Christmas… http://covercove.com/2007/11/26/all-i-want-for-christmas/ http://covercove.com/2007/11/26/all-i-want-for-christmas/#comments Sun, 25 Nov 2007 16:44:27 +0000 admin http://covercove.com/2007/11/26/all-i-want-for-christmas/ This is a Jason Mraz and Tristan Prettyman Christmas song, and to tell you honestly, even if I listen to Jason Mraz’s songs, I haven’t heard this song yet until now.

Anyway, here’s YT user Adielynn singing her cover version of “All I Want for Christmas”

She seems to be enjoying singing this song. Her guitar playing is normal (I’m trying to be critical about it, but I just can’t), and her voice is kinda shy. But what’s for sure is I enjoyed watching this video.

Christmas is All About S.O.U.L. http://covercove.com/2007/11/24/christmas-is-all-about-soul/ http://covercove.com/2007/11/24/christmas-is-all-about-soul/#comments Sat, 24 Nov 2007 10:04:09 +0000 admin http://covercove.com/2007/11/24/christmas-is-all-about-soul/ This one’s a bit short, and I really wished she sang it fully. Well actuaqlly, this is the first time I’ve ever heard this song, so I don’t really know what “full” is. Anyways, here’s Kathleen Badar for her cover of “This Christmas.”

I really like this girl. She sings it with glee and cheer, it made my day a bit sunnier (there’s a typhoon coming here, so it’s pretty dark as of the moment here in the Philippines). In case you guys dunno, RnB is really popular here in Manila, but it’s not that kind of RnB you hear from US radio stations.

What do you guys think?

UPDATE: She’s not staying here in Manila. Apparently, her YouTube channel says she is staying in the United States. Wonder if she really is part Filipina (a possible coveted artist for next month?).

Will Anyone Get Close to This? http://covercove.com/2007/11/24/will-anyone-get-close-to-this/ http://covercove.com/2007/11/24/will-anyone-get-close-to-this/#comments Fri, 23 Nov 2007 22:15:28 +0000 admin http://covercove.com/2007/11/24/will-anyone-get-close-to-this/ There is this song I keep on listening in iMeem.com.

Ever since I watched that darned movie “Enchanted” from Walt Disney, this song kept on ringing in my ears. I just can’t seem to take it out of my head. It sounded like any other Disney Movie theme song, but what hit me is the lyrics.

Here is a link to a lyrics site for you guys to look at. Do you think I’m being too cheesy if I ask you guys if this is CoverCove material?

For those who find this song worthy of the Cove Challenge, please send me your YouTube video links through the email address you’ll find in the sidebar. As of press time, no one has done it yet.
